What is the difference between emergency power supply and uninterrupted power supply?

The difference between EPS and UPS uninterruptible power supply depends on their respective concepts:

a. What is EPS emergency power supply? EPS is the English abbreviation of Emergency Power Supply. EPS emergency power supply is a power supply device that is composed of primary load power supply equipment such as fire protection facilities, emergency lighting, and accident lighting. The product consists of a mutual investment device, an automatic charger, an inverter and a battery pack. When the AC grid is normal, the inverter does not work, and the power is supplied to the important load through the mutual input device. When the AC grid is powered off, the mutual investment device will immediately switch to the inverter power supply. When the grid voltage is restored, the emergency power source will resume power to the grid.


b. What is UPS uninterrupted power supply? UPS uninterrupted power supply is the abbreviation of uninterrupted power system. It is an important external device that can provide continuous, stable and uninterrupted power supply. UPS uninterrupted power supply is divided into three types according to the working principle: Backup ups, online ups and online interactive ups. As the name suggests, UPS uninterrupted power supply is a machine that keeps a period of power supply when power is stopped, allowing people to save time and then shut down the machine gracefully.Once the power is stopped, it can provide power. To keep the computer for a period of time, the hold time may be 10 minutes, half an hour, etc.

(1)The development of EPS in China originates from the need of power grid and fire protection when the power grid suddenly fails. It can provide emergency lighting and fire emergency immediately to protect the user's life or The body is protected from injury, and its technical requirements are subject to fire certification and acceptance. The UPS uninterrupted power supply is only used to protect the user equipment or business from economic losses, and its technical requirements are certified by the Ministry of Information Industry.

(2) Both EPS and UPS uninterrupted power supply can provide two-way output power supply. UPS uninterrupted power supply is to ensure the high quality of power supply, and the inverter is preferred. The EPS is to ensure the energy saving. Of course, there are differences in the design specifications of the rectifier/charger and inverter.

(3) Because the UPS uninterrupted power supply is used online, the fault can be timely alarmed, and the utility power is used as backup protection. The user can grasp the fault and eliminate the fault in time, and will not cause greater damage to the accident. The EPS is offline, and it is the last power supply guarantee. Therefore, its reliability design requirements are higher. It cannot be simply understood as a backup UPS uninterrupted power supply. Otherwise, the importance of EPS will be written off. If the EPS cannot be powered by the battery when the mains fails, the EPS will be as if it is a dummy, and the consequences will be unimaginable.

(4) UPS uninterrupted power supply is computer and network equipment, the load nature (input power factor) is not much different, so the national standard online UPS uninterruptible power supply output is 0.8. The EPS power supply object is power protection and fire safety. The load nature is inductive, capacitive and rectifying nonlinear load. The output power factor cannot be set to 0.8 (the EPS national standard will specify its value), and Some loads are put into operation after the mains power is cut off. Therefore, EPS is required to provide a large inrush current. The EPS needs to have better output dynamic characteristics and stronger anti-overload capability. Therefore, the technical design index allocation of each component of EPS and UPS uninterruptible power supply is different.
